Peacemaker: Season One

"I made a vow to have peace. No matter how many people I have to kill to get it."

Season one of Peacemaker is a surprisingly effective story of a group of losers who manage to save the world. It is also a sequel to a pseudo-sequel of a defunct franchise and this season is not entirely canon... and you know what, all of that is very confusing, so I'm going to start by explaining the weird and wonderful continuity of Peacemaker.

Wednesday: Season One

Wednesday: "I'm not sure whose twisted idea it was to put hundreds of adolescents in underfunded schools run by people whose dreams were crushed years ago... but I admire the sadism."

This review is three years late, but at least it's here before season two which drops tomorrow (August 6th). This will be a review of season one, but not an episode by episode breakdown. If you're curious about the series, it is worth watching if for nothing else than Jenna Ortega's absolutely fabulous portrayal of Wednesday Addams.

The Lazarus Project: Season One Review

"You can time travel."

I could tell you that The Lazarus Project is Groundhog Day meets Mission Impossible, but that wouldn't be accurate. It's a set of fascinating character studies, an exploration of the complexity of human relationships, and one of the few shows I've watched recently that accurately portrays how messy human actions are, not just for an individual, but for entire groups.

This review is safe to read before watching the show. Also, I don't think this show has anything to do with the Paul Walker movie that I have not seen.

Invincible: Season 1

"It's about time."

I've got to say, after sitting through three seasons of The Boys, it was refreshing to watch a superhero show that can be dark and irreverent while also functioning perfectly well as an actual superhero show.

Poker Face: Season Two Review

"Yippie ki-yay, oystershucker."

This review contains spoilers for all of Season Two.

Squid Game: Season Three

"Player 456, do you still have faith in people?"

Whenever I get to the end of a show, I ask myself if I'm glad that it exists. If I am, then it was successful. This especially goes for shows that were extended beyond their inital planned run. Am I glad that those extra seasons exist? Well...

Mobland: Season One Review

Mobland is a Guy Ritchie-produced gangster soap opera set in London starring Tom Hardy. Sadly, it is not quite A Tom Hardy Show. Mobland is bingeable, mildly forgettable, and worth watching if you’re already subscribed to Paramount+ for something else.

Yellowjackets: Season Three, Part Three

"You deserve everything that's coming to you."

(This review covers episodes 8 though 10 of Yellowjackets season 3, and contains spoilers.)

As the title of the Yellowjackets season three finale suggests, an effort is made here to bring many of the series’ biggest storylines “full circle.” What happens in these three episodes is both messy and cathartic, as we get answers to questions that have been hanging over viewers since the pilot.

Daredevil: Born Again

"I was raised to believe in grace. That we can be touched by the divine and transformed into a better person. So if you say to me that you're a new man, I say 'Fine.' But you should know, I was also raised to believe in retribution. So if you step out of line, I will be there."

It has been seven long years, but Daredevil is back! He has been born again.

Too cheesy? Yeah, I know. Writing these little intro blurbs is hard!

This season review contains spoilers.

Yellowjackets: Season Three, Part Two

“What if she’s actually a bad person?”

(This review covers episodes 5 through 7 of Yellowjackets season 3, and contains spoilers.)

These three episodes of Yellowjackets mark a major turning point for the series. Filled with death, sadness and pure chaos, we see glimpses of the show at its very best throughout each episode, though certain elements remain flawed.

Slow Horses: Season Three Review

“Clear the board.”

Although every season of Slow Horses takes place in just a few days, Season Three makes the most of the compressed timeframe, with the bulk of the action (excepting the cold open) taking place in about 36 hours.

Yellowjackets: Season Three, Part One

“How's this story for you? Once upon a time, a bunch of teenage girls got stranded in the wilderness... and they went completely fucking nuts.”

(This review covers episodes one through four of Yellowjackets season three, and contains spoilers).

Severance: Season One

Happy 2025, Readers of Doux! If you're like me, your new year's resolutions were less "hit the gym four times a week" and more "find a new show to binge." If so, please allow me to validate that intention. I'm a firm believer that spudding is an essential form of self care (in my family, "spud" is a verb meaning "to be a couch potato"). This is doubly true if you are actually going to the gym four times a week.

Squid Game: Season Two

"One more game!"

We're back for more! C'mon, there was no way that Netflix was going to just let this be a one season thing. But should they have?

This review contains mild spoilers.

Agatha All Along: Season One

This is a collaborative review of the first season of Agatha All Along. Samantha M. Quinn and An Honest Fangirl talk about their thoughts and opinions. While they keep the bigger reveals mostly spoiler free, there are references to events in the show that could be considered spoilery.

This discussion also contains spoilers for WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Slow Horses: Season Two Review

"They play a long game.”

The first season of Slow Horses was grown-up fun with a decorous amount of stakes. The second season adds another turn of the screw, ratcheting up the tension with some genuinely frightening villains and a higher body count.

The Tourist: Season Two Review

"This whole situation is banana cakes."

This review spoils everything.

Rings of Power: Season Two Review

“It is not strength that overcomes darkness, but light.”

This review spoils mostly everything, none of which is very surprising.

The Boyfriend: Season 1 Review

"During my time in the house, I feel like I've made real connections with all of you. We're more than friends who meet up once in a while." -Taeheon

What do you get when you combine nine men, a coffee shop, and a little romantic idealism? A very chill show. Join me for some thoughts and a not a few spoilers...

The Umbrella Academy: Season 4 Review

Allison: Excuse me! Claire! Claire!
Klaus: Would it make you feel better to remind you that we were exactly like that at her age?

Multiverse stories are always messy. The Umbrella Academy is no exception, and this last season – and this time it is the last season – is made more problematic by budget issues, where the number of episodes was cut from ten to six. At least we get the last apocalypse, which is good, because too many apocalypses become boring.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. Warning! Spoilers abound.
