Supergirl (2026)

“He sees the good in everyone, and I see the truth.”

As the next entry to the new DC Universe franchise that started with Superman (2025), this is a solid, action filled, enjoyable film that gets a lot right.

Supergirl (1984)

"I am Kara of Argo City, daughter of Alura and Zor-El, and I don't scare easily."

There are two movies in here, not so much fighting for dominance as playing a drunken game of musical chairs. One is a surprisingly sincere and faithful Supergirl movie that might've been somewhat good if it had landed in the hands of a creative team who cared or at least knew what they were doing. The other is whatever the hell campy nonsense Faye Dunaway, Peter Cook, and Brenda Vaccaro are in. I doubt either of these movies would've been good on their own, and they are certainly worse together, and yet I was surprised to find I actually ended up enjoying this more than Superman III and IV.

After years of avoiding the show that meant so much to me, the show that got me writing hundreds of pages of analysis only to leave me frustrated in the end, I am finally rewatching...

Supergirl: Season 6

Kara: “You're right. I can't beat it. But I am going to do everything I can to escape it. Even if it means I just get an inch further every day. And I'm sorry for everything you went through. But I would rather live through torture and do something than just exist for the sake of it. The House of El is meant for more than that.”

Twenty episodes in which Supergirl – postponed due to pandemic and pregnancy – finally winds up its last season.

Supergirl: Immortal Kombat

Alex and Lena to Kara: “If anyone can do it, it’s you.”

Supergirl to four billion people: “I believe in you.”

Episode description: "Supergirl realizes that she must work with Lena to stop Lex and Leviathan; Nia struggles with what her dreams are trying to tell her; Brainy realizes there is only one way to stop Lex."

Supergirl: The Missing Link

Lena: “You’re a monster. But that doesn’t mean I have to be one too.”

Episode description: "Supergirl and the team go head-to-head against Rama Khan and Leviathan; Lena and Lex must join forces when Project Non Nocere fails, leaving the two siblings in serious danger."

Supergirl: Deus Lex Machina

Lena Luthor: “See, that’s the thing about narcissists. You’re so focused on yourself you can’t see that you’re the mark.”

Episode description: "Lex proceeds to lay an intricate plan to bring Lena closer to him, defeat Leviathan's latest attack, and pit Supergirl against Leviathan; how Lex came into power after Crisis is revealed."

Supergirl: Alex in Wonderland

VR J’onn: “Alex, you saved your family, the DEO, and the citizens of National City today. That feeling you can’t quite pin down, it’s called happiness.”

Episode description: "Alex uses a pair of Obsidian contact lenses to visit a virtual National City where she takes on a whole new persona. Meanwhile, Kelly helps William investigate Lex. Kara deals with difficult news."

Supergirl: Reality Bytes

Kara: “I know, I know, sometimes being the good guy sucks. Especially when you know how easy it would be to just get rid of someone so vile and full of hate.”

Episode description: "Nia's roommate is attacked by a man targeting Dreamer; Dreamer refuses to give into men's threats and puts herself in the line of fire to stop him; Alex, J'onn and Kelly attempt to rescue a man stuck inside a virtual reality game."

Supergirl: The Bodyguard

Nia Nal: “Rejection never looked so good, or was so cool about it.”

Lex Luthor tasks Supergirl with guarding Andrea as Obsidian launches, but his main interest is getting close to Leviathan.

Supergirl: It's a Super Life

Kara: “Every day, when I wake up, I imagine this moment – the moment where my being Supergirl gets someone I love killed. And I have to push that fear so far down, or I can’t get out of bed.”

Supergirl does It’s a Wonderful Life, and this time I really like the lesson learned.

Supergirl: Back from the Future, Part 2

Kara: "I cannot take the first step in a relationship because it is doomed with deception."

A fractured episode, with only a few good moments, but with a hint of something more at the end.

Supergirl: Back from the Future, Part 1

Brainy: “I’m terrified that I’m becoming the bad guy.”

A scattered episode, with some entertaining moments, and confusing logic, which may not actually be logic in the conventional sense of actually being logical.

Supergirl: The Bottle Episode

Lex Luthor: "Yes, that’s right, you killed me, but that is all in the past."

Lex Luthor is back and he’s worried about Leviathans.

Supergirl: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part One

"Lyla? What's with the suit?"

A surprisingly terrific hour of television. The expected big action scenes were nicely balanced with personal moments, many of which were deeply emotional.

Supergirl: The Wrath of Rama Khan

Gamemnae: “Earthquakes with no death counts, floods with the ferocity of a leaky faucet.”

Episode description: "Supergirl's struggle against Leviathan reaches a boiling point as she faces off against Rama Khan. Meanwhile, as Lena and Hope work to launch Project Non Nocere, Hope proves to be an invaluable asset to Lena."

Supergirl: Tremors

Supergirl: “Well, you are not Lex.”
Lena: “And you are not your cousin. We are miles beyond those boys with their sticks and their stones.”

Episode description: "Supergirl finally learns the truth about Lena while tangling with Leviathan; J'onn J'onnz makes a discovery about his brother's whereabouts."

Supergirl: Confidence Women

Lena Luthor, Andrea Rojas, and Rose Dawson: “I jump, you jump.”

The back story of Lena Luthor and Andrea Rojas.

Supergirl: Dangerous Liaisons

Hope/Eve: “Ms. Luthor, you realize if this goes as planned, you’re about to discover how to do what doctors, politicians, and even priests have failed to do.”
Lena: “Rendering people incapable of hurting each other.”

Not the most compelling episode, but it may be me.

Supergirl: In Plain Sight

Alex: "How could you ever think that I could say those things, or think those things about you?"
J’onn: "I guess because I thought those things about myself."

An enjoyable episode that kept me watching, and which made progress on several arcs.
