Occasionally, television reminds us that it can be a brilliant medium. It is easy to become cynical, believing that only a show that pretends to be reality or a comedy in which good actors spout terrible dialogue can be aired. Then, just as we despair, along comes something truly genius. The Hollow Crown is truly genius.

This is a good year to be British. Not only are we playing host to the Olympics this summer, but we're also celebrating a special anniversary for our most famous citizen – James Bond. Yes, the 007 franchise is 50 this year and we couldn't be more proud. Sure,  Queen is also celebrating her Diamond Jubilee but who cares about that. Last time I checked, Her Majesty didn't save the world from mad men with secret volcano lairs. Well, there was that one time, but we're not supposed to talk about that.
