Slayers: A Buffyverse Story

(Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is an Audible original by Christopher Golden and Amber Benson, available from Amazon.)

“Her mind’s a carnival fun house.”

For me, anything from the Buffyverse is a good thing. Slayers isn’t Shakespeare but it is good fun.

About Us: drnanamom

We're nearing the end of our About Us series. Here's one of our first wave of recruited writers and a wonderful friend of mine for over twenty years, drnanamom!

What area of the world do you live in, and what do you do in real life? (Because we all know you don't make any money doing this.)

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Family Business

Quark: “It’s the end of Ferengi civilization as we know it.”

Families are complicated, even Ferengi ones.

Star Trek The Next Generation: The Chase

Galen: “Dream not of today, Mr. Picard.”

If you have ever heard the song "One Tin Soldier" then you know the plot of this episode.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Prophet Motive

Quark: “There is nothing beyond greed. Greed is the noblest of emotions."

Ferengis are not the darlings of the Star Trek universe but I have always had a soft spot for Quark and this Ferengi-centric episode was a lot of fun.

Star Trek The Next Generation: Face of the Enemy

Deanna Troi wakes up as a Romulan and not just any Romulan but a member of the dreaded Tal Shiar.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Fascination

"Peldor Joi!"

This is a lovely little piece of fluff centred on cupid's arrows and the Bajoran Gratitude Festival.

Star Trek The Next Generation: A Fistful of Datas

Alexander: “Saddle up, Father.”

This isn't a particularly deep episode and there isn't even much character development but it is fun and there are some really nice bits.

Star Trek The Next Generation: Realm of Fear

“The best way out is through.”

This was an interesting episode with some ups and downs.

The X-Files: Familiar

Case: A vicious animal attack on a young boy.

Destination: Eastwood, Connecticut

Mulder: “I did not see that coming.”

Take a parent's worst nightmare, add a creepy clown and you have your standard X-Files episode.

The X-Files: The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat

Case: A mysterious man believes that people's memories are being changed.

Destination: Washington, D.C. (aka Vancouver)

Mulder: “So that’s the truth. We’re not alone in the universe but nobody likes us?”

This was a fun episode.

The X-Files: The Truth

Mulder: “We can’t win, Scully. We can only hope to go down fighting.”

How do you wrap up nine years of weirdness and a hopelessly convoluted mythology?

The X-Files: Jump the Shark

“Once upon a time there were, how shall I say this, three geeks. Three more unlikely heroes there never were.”

The Lone Gunmen were always favourite extras of mine. I know that this episode is not a fan favourite but I was glad they got some kind of a send off.

The X-Files: Audrey Pauley

Case: Agent Reyes is in a coma and apparently brain dead.

Destination: Falls Church, Virginia

Reyes: “There’s dog people and there’s cat people. You are a dog person, John.”

This is a lovely Reyes-centric episode with some lovelorn Doggett thrown in.

The X-Files: Provenance

Case: An undercover FBI agent wants to kill William

Destination: Alberta, Canada/Washington DC

Scully: “Those are questions I can’t answer.”

The X-Files: John Doe

Case: John Doggett has disappeared.

Destination: Sangradura, Mexico

Mexican police officer: “What is your name?”
Doggett: “I don’t know.”

Finally, a good Doggett-centric episode.

The X-Files: Daemonicus

Case: People are being murdered in unusual, possibly satanic ways

Destination: Weston, West Virginia; Washington, D.C.

Scully: “Science, however, tells us that evil comes not from monsters, but from men. It offers us the methodology to catch these men. And only after we have exhausted these methods should we leave science behind to consider more extreme possibilities.”

Star Trek The Next Generation: Cost of Living

Alexander: “The higher, the fewer.”

This was a delightful episode with a tag-along B (A?) plot involving sparkly metal eating beings.

The X-Files: Essence

Case: Anyone involved with a secret cloning operation is being murdered.

Destination: Washington, D.C.

Mulder: “How did this child come to be? What set its heart beating?”

This is the first of two parts but easily stood on its own.

The X-Files: Three Words

Case: A government employee working with census data dies trying to get information to the president.

Destination: Washington, D.C.

Doggett: “What don’t I know.”
Rohrer: “Three words.”
