Veronica Mars: Show Me the Monkey

Parker: "I'm saying there's a saddle, Veronica. And we should be back in it."

I wasn't expecting Veronica to lie to a client and let the monkey go. She does occasionally show her marshmallow center. I also wasn't expecting her to throw herself at Logan, because we've all been expecting the writers to put Veronica and Piz together and that Veronica/Piz scene in the food court completely threw me off. I was going, "No! Not Piz, Veronica!" And then I was floored when she showed up at Logan's hotel room. Which is why this show is so good. It's unpredictable.

Well, okay, I did expect Mac to go for Bronson, so there was some predictability. I like Mac a whole lot, though, and I'm glad she's recovering from what happened with Cassidy. I also really liked Mac and Parker as Veronica's sidekicks infiltrating PHAT.

And I'm warming up to Piz. He's cute in a Xander sort of way and has a snarky sort of charm, as well as the good taste to be crazy about Veronica. But what new male character could possibly compete with the fireworks surrounding Veronica's relationship with Logan? The awkward mingling Veronica did at the Around the World Party (yes, my hobby is solving crimes, what's yours?) just drove home how different and special she is. No ordinary horny college guy is going to do it for Veronica; she needs someone as unique as she is.

But Piz will probably get another chance, because we all know it won't last. Veronica is not terribly forgiving, and I expect Logan's unfortunate experience with that celebrity [blank]er to come back and bite him in the ass.

"Goodbye, cruel world. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz." And Sheriff Lamb ruled it a suicide. Why am I not surprised? In this case, the undrunk single malt was the figurative smoking gun. The "goodbye cruel world" from Veronica's "perfect murder" paper strongly implicates Professor Landry, but he's way too obvious. The killer had to be someone who had access to Veronica's paper, though. Does that narrow the field any?

At least Keith is on the case. Keith should give the O'Dells a family rate.

Bits and pieces:

— I spent the entire episode wanting the lab animals to stay free. Even though they did, excellent point at the end that another monkey was going to replace Oscar.

— Professor MacGregor was so nasty. I want him to be Dean O'Dell's killer. No proof, no particular reason. I just don't like him.

— Dick taking the Polaroid of his, um, and throwing it off the balcony made me laugh out loud. Takes exhibitionism to a whole new level. It was so Dick.

— Ed Argent, conservative rocker, was obviously a take-off on the revolting Ted Nugent. The shirt thing was clever. Very funny.

— If Veronica didn't know before that Piz is crazy about her, she should know now.

Quotes:

Mac: "Wow. This is one trashed lab. All that's missing is a big hole in the wall shaped like the Hulk."

Veronica: "We're talking monkey as in..."
Mac: "Touch my."

Weevil: "He was pretty cool for a weird old white dude."

Logan: "Garden State was never a book."
Dick: "Oops. So much for that paper."

Piz: "Everything north of San Francisco is just Thunderdome to you, isn't it?"
I just loved this one.

Veronica: "Somebody was doe-eyed, tongue-tied and dare I say, twitter-pated?"

The usual excellent VM episode. Three out of four stars,

Billie

Billie Doux loves good television and spends way too much time writing about it.

  2. Logan and Veronica changing looks is just so intense and sweet. Their eyes tell the tale.
Like how Mac is going for Bronson but I wish they had deepened what happened to her last season with Beaver.
And I liked the Dean, too. So sorry that he´s dead.
