Yes, I know I didn't even mention it in my reader survey, but I finally got around to watching Firefly and Nathan Fillion just won me over. Fortunately, or unfortunately, Firefly also has the advantage of being an easy commitment review-wise because it was over way too soon.
So I've started writing Firefly reviews. I won't be able to finish them quickly because season finales are approaching, but the summer television wasteland is also approaching. A summer with no Battlestar Galactica because it's not coming back until freaking October. (October?!) Which means that I'll basically have the summer free to catch up with non-current shows.
Another non-current show, Six Feet Under, is also calling me, and I'm going to have to write about it. Haven't started yet, and probably won't until May or June, but reviews are coming.
I'm worried about making a commitment to another current show at this point. I'm not going to stop reviewing Lost. My commitment to Smallville isn't deep, but I do enjoy writing about it; it's a lot of fun. I'm very into Battlestar Galactica, and they just made it harder for me by announcing that new episodes will air in the fall instead of summer. What this means that if I take on another current show that airs in the fall (like, say, Veronica Mars) I'll be doing four at the same time. I did four at the same time once, and it was hard. It was difficult for me to keep up and I experienced some burn-out.
And what if I fall in love with something new this fall? If four makes me burn out, what would five do?
I'm not sure where I'm going with this. It's sort of meander-y.
But hey! Firefly! I think I've gotten more letters asking me to review Firefly than any other show, with the possible exception of Veronica Mars. That's not why I'm doing it, of course, but still.

Billie Doux loves good television and spends way too much time writing about it.
What wonderful news that is! Firefly is too excellent for you not to review it, so I'm glad you came around ;)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the reviews.
Are you saying that review four shows is too much or watching four is too much? If it's the latter, then count your blessings because I'm watching 15 shows right now (soon to be 12 in the fall and I'm not counting reality, talk, Farscape in syndication or sketch comedies). I review them all, but I haven't quite got the fabulous writing style that you've got. But I'm super glad that you're taking on new shows and I hope you review and watch the next season of Veronica Mars.
ReplyDeleteI love Firefly with a passion and I'm glad your reviewing it however can't say the same for Six Feet Under. When it first started I loved it but I stopped watching around the 4th season when things started to get too silly and depressing.
ReplyDeleteLisa, I do watch more than I review. I watch Medium, ER, and Supernatural, and I'm catching up with other shows like 24, Veronica Mars and Desperate Housewives on DVD.
ReplyDeleteSorry you don't like Six Feet Under, Scuttlecliff. But hey! Firefly!
Hi Billie! I read your reviews but I think and I don't know if this is possible, but on the bottom of each review (or more, for a current show) you should put a comment box, because I've had some responces to things that you've said and I bet others have too.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work. I love reading your Alias, Lost and Smallville Reviews. (I never watched the other shows.)
Thanks!
Yay, Firefly!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to start reading.
Don’t get me wrong I do like Six Feet Under, I still think of the first season as a masterpiece and Nathanial Fisher Snr, despite being killed off in the very first scene, is one of my all time favorite TV characters. But the show lost its quirky black humor around the end of series three and the character started to become more and more unlikable to the point where I just couldn’t watch it anymore. I tired to catch the last season but it was shown in the UK at a graveyard slot. But still, Firefly. Glad to see old Captain Tightpants has won over another.
ReplyDeleteI just started watching Six Feet Under, so it's cool you're reviewing now :):):) Never watched FireFly, and don't really thinkg I ever will...I didn find out you don't watch Gilmore Girls, and Grey's Anatomy --> Shame on you!!! ;) Keep up the goo work though :)
