Castle: Crossfire

“Everything ends in tragedy, even an epic love story like yours.”

Watching this episode reminded me of running into an old boyfriend.

Castle: Resurrection

“I never forget a face, especially if I cut it.”

He’s baaaaack! Or, is he?

Castle: I, Witness

“I believe that he’s been right too many times not to consider it.”

Castle is still a PI, but this week the case was much more serious than his previous cases. He was not looking for a purse; he witnessed a murder.

Castle: Private Eye Caramba!

“Where I come from, it’s rude to point a gun at a man.”

Last week was all about the new private investigator competing with his compatriots at the 12th. This week, there were two cases, worked in parallel. One was a murder; the other was a missing purse. Guess which one Castle worked on.

Castle: Castle, P.I.

“I am no longer Richard Castle, ordinary citizen. I am now Richard Castle, Private Investigator.”

One of my favorite Castle episodes of all time is “The Double Down.” This episode had a lot of the same beats, a lot of the same humor, even Perlmutter. While it may not have been all that original, it was still hugely entertaining.

Castle: Bad Santa

“You can trust me.”

Santa as a murderer is not something one sees often in a Christmas episode, especially with a peppy Christmas tune playing in the background. A good open to an episode that, while taking place at Christmas, was anything but about peace and goodwill.

Castle Book Review: Raging Heat

Richard Castle has finally given up.

Castle: Last Action Hero

“My hero was a liar... and a goat herder.”

It’s always fun when Castle takes a genre and plays with it. I was mildly alarmed at the beginning of this episode as the writers spoofed Westerns just two episodes ago and missed the mark a bit. This time out, however, the satire was much better realized.

Castle: Kill Switch

“Well, it’s not every day you come across someone who makes a suicide bomber look like the good guy.”

Now that Caskett are back from their honeymoon, the writers chose to shine the spotlight on another character. Javier Esposito is worth spending time with.

Castle: Meme is Murder

“You know the problem with anonymity? There is no accountability. It empowers cowards to become bullies.”

Beckett and I are of one mind when it comes to internet anonymity, a fact of modern life that could have made for a wonderful episode of television. Unfortunately, the writers chose a story that has been told and tried to get us excited about technology that’s been around for a while.

Castle: Child's Play

“So, basically, we’re looking for someone who won’t intimidate them. An adult presence in the classroom that eight-year-olds will view as a peer, someone that they can consider one of their own?"

Being the man-child that he is, it was only a matter of time before Castle went undercover in a school. I didn’t expect it to be second grade, however.

Castle: Clear and Present Danger

“Invisibility is science fiction. Cloaking, however, is science.”

There are several reasons I keep watching this show, even when it disappoints me. I love the Castle charm; I love the interactions among the folks who people the 12th Precinct; I love Martha; I love the Caskett romance. This episode gave me all of what I love and reminded me just how good this show can be when it ramps up the crazy.

Castle: Montreal

“And, if this were one of your books, Mr. Castle, wouldn’t you find the plot a little hard to swallow?”

This was a mishmash of an episode. Over the course of the hour, we bounced between standard Castle fare and beginning to unravel the mystery of what happened to Castle during the two months he was missing. The latter was far more intriguing than the former.

Castle: Once Upon a Time in the West

“I can see who wears the ten gallon hat in your house.”

This was a fun episode.

Castle: The Time of Our Lives

“Every time your phone rings, a victim gets their wings.”

What if Castle and Beckett had never met?

Castle: Driven

“Don’t you think Castle deserves the benefit of the doubt?”

In those ten words, Kevin Ryan (and, inadvertently, the writers) summed up this season opener perfectly.

Castle: Love Me Dead

“Who needs proof? What a great story!”

Secrets. Sometimes they get you killed; sometimes they freak out your father.

Castle: Kill The Messenger

“Never let the job get in the way of the job.”

Castle is a show that works when it concentrates on the relationships among the various characters or when it spoofs a specific genre, show, or film. When it tries to be more of straight procedural, it tends to lose its way.

Castle: Famous Last Words

“Sometimes, when we lose an artist we like, it’s kinda like losing a friend.”
Poignant words in a week where we lost Robin Williams and Lauren Bacall.

The death of a celebrity can be tough. Although we have never met this person, we feel as if we have and we feel as if we know her. Especially if that celebrity has touched us through her art, we can feel as though the world is a lesser place without her.

Castle Book Review: Wild Storm

“You’re sooooo ruggedly handsome.”

Richard Castle is an enigma.
