Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (2020-2021) is the tale of Zoey Clarke, a mild-mannered computer programmer who, after an MRI gone wrong downloads all of Spotify into her brain, begins to hear the thoughts of people around her as elaborate musical numbers. Sometimes a raucous musical comedy, sometimes a biting Silicon Valley satire, sometimes a moving family drama, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist is an extraordinary (if highly on-the-nose) show that's many things, but never boring.

Psych is a crime comedy, a comedy about crime. Psych follows the escapades — and that's really the right word — of one Shawn Spencer, a man whose observational skills let him convince people he's psychic, and his best friend Burton "Gus" Guster — Dr. Watson to Shawn's demented Sherlock Holmes. Together, they solve murders for the Santa Barbara PD, much to the chagrin of Detective Lassiter, who thinks Shawn's a giant nuisance but with the help of the stalwart Detective Juliet O'Hara, Shawn's girlfriend (finally...). Also usually involved is Henry, Shawn's no-nonsense retired cop dad, the man who taught Shawn everything he knows about detecting- whether Shawn wanted to learn it or not. There are some smart criminals out there, sure, but by episode's end, none can out-wit the the rule-bending, snack-loving, pop-culturing-citing psychic-vision faking dream team that is Shawn and Gus. Taste the delicious flavor of Psych, people, taste the delicious flavor.

One of my favorite shows of all time, James Cameron's Dark Angel is a thrilling sci-fi adventure about a genetically engineered superwoman in an apocalyptic world. Although the show only ran for two seasons, it still managed to create a captivating world with lovable characters and a downright fascinating mythology. Oh, and it also starred the gorgeous Jessica Alba.

Terry O'Quinn as the devil married to Vanessa Williams? It sounds better than it actually is. 666 Park Avenue was a somewhat ambitious production that stumbled out the gate although it was positively brimming with potential. The optimist in me never lost hope, but the show effectively squandered a spooky setting and one of the best casts ever assembled for a television show.

Portland detective Nick Burkhardt starts seeing ordinary people morph into legendary and animal-like creatures, and learns from his dying aunt that he is the last in a long line of Grimms. Grimms, like the fairytale-writing pair of brothers, both catalog and defend the world against these supernatural creatures called Wesen. While Wesen appear human, a Grimm can see who they truly are when they lose control.

Nick teams up with Monroe, a reformed blutbad (a wolf-like wesen), who helps him understand this new world and solve Wesen-related crimes. Nick's girlfriend, Juliette, and partner on the force, Hank, are both ignorant of Nick's new abilities. Captain Renard, Nick's boss, knows what Nick is, but chooses to keep that knowledge, and his own true nature, a secret.

Part crime show, part supernatural drama, Grimm mixes in humor and mythology while turning fairy tales on their heads.

Stephen King

I really, really want to review every book Stephen King has ever written. Well, that’s not quite true: I want Doux Reviews to have a Stephen King review extravaganza. To be the first place you look after you’ve read one of his books. To stop by to see which one you should read next. Is this even possible? I don’t know. Reviewing books is fun, but it’s also hard work, especially when the books are as connected as King’s are. But I’m going to try, and I’m going to keep trying.
