Psych is a crime comedy, a comedy about crime. Psych follows the escapades — and that's really the right word — of one Shawn Spencer, a man whose observational skills let him convince people he's psychic, and his best friend Burton "Gus" Guster — Dr. Watson to Shawn's demented Sherlock Holmes. Together, they solve murders for the Santa Barbara PD, much to the chagrin of Detective Lassiter, who thinks Shawn's a giant nuisance but with the help of the stalwart Detective Juliet O'Hara, Shawn's girlfriend (finally...). Also usually involved is Henry, Shawn's no-nonsense retired cop dad, the man who taught Shawn everything he knows about detecting- whether Shawn wanted to learn it or not. There are some smart criminals out there, sure, but by episode's end, none can out-wit the the rule-bending, snack-loving, pop-culturing-citing psychic-vision faking dream team that is Shawn and Gus.
