Anthony Stewart Head Dead at 72

I am so sorry to report that Anthony Stewart Head has died at the age of 72, of complications from pneumonia.

As a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and as a librarian, Anthony Head meant a lot to me. It makes me even sadder when we consider that he is the third Buffy cast member to pass away in just a year and a half.

A Tribute to Mister Baseball: Bob Uecker

“The biggest thrill a ballplayer can have is when your son takes after you. That happened when my Bobby was in his championship Little League game. He really showed me something. Struck out three times. Made an error that lost the game. Parents were throwing things at our car and swearing at us as we drove off. Gosh, I was proud.”

Bob Uecker, known affectionately as “Mister Baseball,” has passed away at the age of 90. While I’m not into sports, as someone who was born in Milwaukee in 1969 and a long-term resident of the state of Wisconsin, his loss has hit me harder than I would have originally thought. This article is my personal tribute to this Wisconsin icon.

In Memory of Rene Auberjonois

"I'm never going to retire. I'll die with my boots on." - Rene Auberjonois

Rene Auberjonois was a brilliant performer and by all accounts a wonderful man. But for most of us, who never got the opportunity to meet him and have only seen a fraction of his immense body of work, we will never forget the sound of his voice.

Acknowledgement to the Works of Harlan Ellison

Science fiction author and all round obnoxious human being Harlan Ellison died on Wednesday, June 27. He was 84.

I'm sitting here with tears on my cheeks wondering what I could possibly say about Ellison. I tried to read a volume of his stories once, and found them so disturbing that I couldn't finish. But his contribution to the science fiction genre in general and to time travel stories in particular is immense.

Doux News Weekly Round Up: March 18, 2018

This week we talk about The Avengers again, Buffy, Jay and Silent Bob, Bond, Travelers, Tomb Raider and some overpriced television. Sadly we also have to say goodbye to one of the greatest scientific minds of ours or any time.

Carrie Fisher, 1956-2016

I have been surprised by how upset the loss of Carrie Fisher has made me. I cried twice — initially when it was announced that she'd had a heart attack, because it felt like the end, and yesterday, when we learned she had died.

Glee: The Quarterback

“We honor Finn Hudson by taking care of the people he loved, and the way we do that is by helping them to move on.”

The worst tragedies occur when people are taken from us too soon. Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, died last summer from a combination of heroin and alcohol. The show that made him famous aired their tribute episode and, although we stopped reviewing Glee and I stopped watching Glee years ago, this episode was one that I felt I had to watch.
