The X-Files: The Truth

Mulder: “We can’t win, Scully. We can only hope to go down fighting.”

How do you wrap up nine years of weirdness and a hopelessly convoluted mythology?

The X-Files: William

Case: A mysterious, very scarred man breaks into the FBI to steal some X-Files.

Destination: Washington, D. C.

"Sweet dreams, baby boy."

The X-Files: Providence

Case: Following on from the previous episode, the team search for Scully's son.

Destination: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

"You call it protection. I call it a systematic effort inside the FBI to eliminate us."

The X-Files: Provenance

Case: An undercover FBI agent wants to kill William

Destination: Alberta, Canada/Washington DC

Scully: “Those are questions I can’t answer.”

The X-Files: Trust No 1

Case: Scully meets with the parents of another special child and must decide if she needs to risk Mulder's return.

Destination: Washington, D.C.

“Truth is not found in science, or on some unseen plane, but by looking into your own heart.”

The X-Files: Nothing Important Happened Today II

Case: Doggett and his fellow Agents (plus The Lone Gunmen) work to uncover the nefarious plots of the super-soldiers.

Destination: Washington, D.C.

Doggett: “Mulder’s long gone.”

The X-Files: Nothing Important Happened Today

Case: A tall lady who likes to swim naked kills a member of the EPA and Doggett investigates.

Destination: Baltimore, MD

Welcome to the beginning of season nine. The turmoil behind the scenes is as interesting (or more) than the premiere episode. We get to find out a lot more about Scully’s baby and super-soldiers this season. Oh, goody.

The X-Files: Existence

Case: Agent Scully is ready to have her baby but a crew of super soldiers wants to intervene.

Destination: DC, Doggett's hometown (location never revealed)

It all ends here! Well, not all of it. Let me try that again. Lots of things end here in 'Existence'.

The X-Files: Essence

Case: Anyone involved with a secret cloning operation is being murdered.

Destination: Washington, D.C.

Mulder: “How did this child come to be? What set its heart beating?”

This is the first of two parts but easily stood on its own.

The X-Files: Vienen

Case: Fun with Mulder and Doggett on an oil rig.

Destination: Gulf of Mexico

“I never would have believed it – these stories about you.”
“Really? What stories are those?”
“That you could find a conspiracy at a church picnic.”
“What church?”
       --Doggett and Mulder

The X-Files: Three Words

Case: A government employee working with census data dies trying to get information to the president.

Destination: Washington, D.C.

Doggett: “What don’t I know.”
Rohrer: “Three words.”

The X-Files: Deadalive

Case: Redacted to avoid spoilers on the front page. It involves digging up bodies.

Destination: Washington, D.C.

The X-Files: This is Not Happening

Case: Scully and friends are getting really close to finding Mulder’s current location.

Destination: Helena, MT

Scully’s speaking about starlight: “It won’t die, that light… maybe that’s the only thing that never does. You think that’s where souls reside?”

The X-Files: Per Manum

Case: A genetic clinic is under suspicion for tampering with the fertility process.

Destination: Germantown, Maryland

'Per Manum' — Have you seen it? Scully was a patient at a fertility clinic, and Mulder was the donor! RETCON.

The X-Files: The Gift

Case: Doggett retraces Mulder's steps to find strange happenings in a small community.

Destination: Squamash, Pennsylvania

'The Gift' is an X-Files invitation to Agent Doggett to go big or go home. A Scully-free episode, and one where Doggett's mettle is tested on every level, this episode pulls off some nice moves.

The X-Files: Without

Case: Scully, Skinner, and Doggett find Gibson Praise and search for Mulder in the Arizona Desert.

Destination: Clifton, AZ

“Who are these beings we dare to imagine, but fear to accept? What dark work goes on inside their impossible machines, cloaked from us by invisible forces?”

The X-Files: Within

Case: Mulder is missing and the FBI mounts a task force to find him.

Destination: D.C., Clifton, AZ.

Season Eight opens more strongly than expected, though it’s ever more mythically-challenged. Oh, and there’s a new agent on the scene, John Doggett (Robert Patrick).

The X-Files: Requiem

Case: The first alien abduction case Mulder and Scully ever worked on, calls for them to investigate, again.

Destination: Bellefleur, Oregon

The X-Files: En Ami

Case: Scully ditches Mulder and takes a road trip to find a miracle cure.

Destination: On the road to Pennsylvania

“She knows that I would find her no matter what.”

The X-Files: Closure

Case: Mulder joins forces with a psychic to try to determine once and for all what happened to his sister.

Destination: Sacramento, California

“I guess I just want it to be over.”

For those of us who have not had the experience, it is impossible to comprehend what someone who has lost a loved one as tragically as Mulder lost Samantha lives with. We can, on the other hand, understand why he has been driven all these years to find her, to find the answers, and to understand precisely what happened all those years ago. We can also understand how tired he is and how much he wants it all to just end.
