"Morning, creepy – I know you're looking out for me."
Dreams are haunting Jefferson Pierce, and the fighting he's been doing as a man is coming to hit him as a superhero – even as high powered guns threaten to fill the streets of Freeland, putting every meta at risk.

"In my notes, I've written something. Intimacy can be rewarding. And even deeper than before. But the honesty about what you're feeling, it has to be there. It has to be there first."
The first episode of Season Four of Black Lightning is more about internal battles than high-tech drug abuse and metahuman abilities – and it's no less of of a knockout fight for all that. As a season premiere, I think it's the best of the four. A lot of that has to do with how well-developed our characters have become.

"Things just got a lot more interesting."
A good sophomore season, with a lot of plot advancement and many enjoyable moments. My only real complaint was the lack of pay off. Season two felt mostly like set-up for season three.

"The devil deals the cards."
When the first episode of Black Lightning aired, I watched it. And it didn't grab me, so I didn't keep watching. Where was my head? Maybe I was reaching peak superhero. Or maybe I need a show to have a few successful seasons before I give it a serious try.

"I thought you were done being a hero."
There are many things on which I judge a new show. Do I trust the writers to tell a coherent and compelling story? Is this world believable, at least to the extent that it makes sense and is consistent? Are the characters interesting and do I care about them? And finally, is this where I want to spend my time on a weekly basis. As far as Black Lightning is concerned, the answers to the above are yes, yes, yes, and I'm not sure.
