What are you all watching?

House of the Dragon: The Queen Who Ever Was

“The dragons dance, and men are like dust under their feet. And all our fine thoughts, all our endeavors are as nothing. We march now toward our annihilation.”

“The order of things has changed, Your Grace. Why not embrace it?”
Game of Thrones had a tradition of delivering amazing penultimate episodes, for most of its run anyway. This was a pretty amazing penultimate episode for House of the Dragon.

Thank you as ever to Billie and everyone at Doux Reviews for letting me come back and write one of these every year even when I haven't had time to write anything else for the site since the last one! I do love doing them.:)

“It’s not a prize to be won, but a burden to bear.”
Everyone's strategizing. And if they're not strategizing, they're restrategizing.

“Was it worth the price?”
While not nearly as impactful as the previous episode, this one does portray the aftermath quite well. And keeps the ball rolling, as far as the plot goes.

“I inherited eighty years of peace from my father. Before I was to end it, I needed to know there was no other path. And now I do. Only one choice remains to me: either I win my claim or die.”

“Sin begets sin begets sin.”
The show continues to slowly build its pieces, even as everything continues to unravel in the plot. Not much happened in this episode — and not all that happened was entirely satisfying — but it is a juicy bit of setup.

"And what if the hand that's done it is not the one to blame. The gods punish us."
The season premiere was mostly about regrouping with everyone and setting the scene for the escalating war. Now that the escalation is underway, things are starting to get interesting. And very intense.

“It's been said that as Targaryens, we are closer to gods than to men. And the Iron Throne puts us a touch closer, perhaps."

"There is a beast beneath the boards!"
In a twist, instead of publishing House of the Dragon Season One's penultimate episode and finale reviews in their own consecutive weeks, I chose to do what many of us pray George R.R. Martin is doing with his final two A Song of Ice and Fire books: finish writing both and publish them back-to-back.

"I must put things right..."
This episode was very impressive, sad and moving. Makes what’s about to happen all the more tragic. This is the calm before the storm.

“They will fear what else we might be capable of.”
The last few episodes have been especially dramatic and intense, but this may be the most dramatic yet.

“Congratulations, stepdaughter. What a blessing this is for you.”
It's a wedding episode. So, naturally, we begin and end with murder.
