Doux Top Twenty! Number 15: Person of Interest

Person of Interest is number 15 in Doux Reviews’ top twenty hitting shows.

PoI ran from 2011 to 2016 and we covered all five seasons, mostly as they aired. Nearly every episode was reviewed by Sunbunny, with the first few by Gus Brunetti (Hi, Gus! We miss you) and a few hither and yon by Mark Greig and Josie Kafka.

I’ll let Sunbunny take over from here.

Five (And More) Ubiquitous Dead TV Characters*

*As in those characters who died either before or at the very beginning of a series, but continued to be a major presence throughout its run.

Mark's Best of 2016

Seasons greetings, faithful readers, and welcome to my look back at the best that the idiot box had to offer us in 2016.

Person of Interest: .exe

“You’ve already lost.”

Finch continues his mission to take down Samaritan as we pause occasionally for simulations of what would have been had the Machine never existed. It was a lovely penultimate episode totally worthy of the series that came before it.

Person of Interest: Synecdoche

“So, where to, Harry?”

This was fun but I’m not sure I like that it was fun.

Person of Interest: The Day the World Went Away

“Who wants to go quietly?”

Person of Interest has driven the victim who turns out to be a perpetrator twist into the ground. But this time, they surprised me. (Contains spoilers for a lot of other things so be careful.)

Person of Interest: Sotto Voce

“Maybe the best we can do is trust each other.”

Does it count as a case of the week episode if it’s related to a previous case of the week episode? Does it matter either way if the episode was one of the best we’ve seen this season?

Person of Interest: Reassortment

“Looks like the zombie apocalypse started.”

Just one sentence of whining - WHY ARE WE GETTING SO MUCH FILLER?! - and I’m done.

Person of Interest: QSO

“The Machine wants me to send a message to Shaw.”

Person of Interest: A More Perfect Union

"None of us are ever gonna have a happy,
normal relationship."
"We're doomed."
"Even I appreciate a fairytale ending, Harry. Family politics, overcooked meat, monogamy. What's not to love?"

It's a nice day for a white wedding, it's a nice day to start again.

Person of Interest: ShotSeeker

This episode reverted to an earlier season format. Dull, by the numbers episode with a Shocking Twist™ at the end. That twist, shocking as it may be, is not enough to make up for forty minutes of exposition and running around shooting things. Let’s hope this is that last time we revisit this formula.

Person of Interest: 6741

“You were my safe place.”

This episode nearly killed me.

Person of Interest: Truth Be Told

“Who the hell was that guy?”
“A ghost, from the past.”

I want to slap John Reese.

Person of Interest: SNAFU

"Good news, this number's legit. Bad news, I'm the victim."

Reese in a bowling shirt! Root as a girl scout! Root in bunny slippers! Bear with bunny slippers! Oh how I loved this episode.

Person of Interest: B.S.O.D.

“I know you can’t talk right now, but maybe that’s better than hearing all our numbers are up.”

This episode was basically about the race to plug your iPhone in before its battery runs out. I shouldn’t have watched it on the edge of my seat and I shouldn’t have cried, but I did both those things.

Person of Interest: Best Episodes

If you’re anything like me, you miss Person of Interest and you love dogs. Which is why I put together this quick synopsis of the ten best episodes of Person of Interest and an assortment of pictures of Bear. Why? Why not?

Here be spoilers.

Person of Interest: YHWH

“Men have gazed at the stars for millennia, and wondered whether there’s a deity up there, silently directing their fates. Today for the first time, they’ll be right.”

After months of waiting, finally we get an episode that lives up to the Person of Interest name. But is it too little too late?

Person of Interest: Asylum

“We’re in the belly of the beast.”

After watching the penultimate episode of the season, I find myself wondering if maybe the Person of Interest magic is gone for good.

Person of Interest: Terra Incognita

“Will you stay with me? Just for a little bit.”

After a string of episodes I think I can safely term a quick succession of busy nothings, Person of Interest changes its tone radically for a sweet, sad, and incredibly moving episode that ranks among the series’ best. And that is almost entirely down to the acting.
