Doux Top Twenty! Number 1: Supernatural

Supernatural is number one of the Doux Top Twenty. Undoubtedly because it’s a huge favorite here at Doux Reviews and it has a massive numerical advantage: fifteen seasons (2005-2020).

Doux Top Twenty! Number 2: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is number 2 of the Doux Top Twenty. You can’t possibly be surprised.

I went to grad school at the University of Texas in 1996 and 1997. In March of 1997, Buffy premiered, and honestly, while the title of the series made me laugh, I watched most of the first season while in a frenzy of library science paper writing, and wasn’t impressed.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 3: Doctor Who

Doctor Who is Number 3 in Doux Reviews Top Twenty hitting shows.

New Doctor Who and classic Doctor Who both made the list. I decided that even though they have separate show pages, they should be listed together. They are, after all, the same show.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 4: La Femme Nikita

La Femme Nikita is number 4 in the Doux Top Twenty hitting shows.

And I can hear you now. La Femme Nikita? What’s that doing so high on the list?

Doux Top Twenty! Number 5: Lost

Lost (2004-2010) is number 5 in the Doux Top Twenty hitting shows.

A plane crashes on a very unusual island. No one comes to rescue the survivors. Their lives turn out to be oddly intertwined. Bizarre and supernatural things keep happening, like a smoke monster, like a polar bear, like six numbers that are supposed to mean something. There are flashbacks, flashforwards, flashsideways. Fans of the show obsessed about every clue. Fans like me.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 6: 24

24 is number 6 in the Doux Top Twenty. And this is the one show on the list that completely surprised me.

It’s not that 24 isn’t a great show; it is. The minute-by-minute as-it-happens format was groundbreaking when it aired (2001-2010), and I watched its entire run back then. But my reviews are relatively recent, and they’re season reviews as well.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 7: Angel

Angel is number 7 on Doux Reviews' list of Top Twenty hitting shows.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer's spinoff show Angel (1999-2004) is one of the few shows that I started reviewing with the first episode and continued with right up until the end. Like Buffy, my Angel reviews were initially carried on three different web sites, all of which are now gone from the web.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 8: The X-Files

The X-Files is number 8 in the Doux Top Twenty.

In May 2009, Doux writer Jess Lynde took on a daunting retro project – writing reviews of all nine seasons of The X-Files. She got to season two before asking for help, and several Agents of Doux answered the call: ChrisB, drnanamom, Heather, Juliette and Mallena.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 9: Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones (2011-2019) is one of the few shows that we covered as it aired, from the very beginning right up until the bitter end. Josie Kafka reviewed the first three seasons, and several Agents of Doux joined in for the final five: Juliette, Mark Greig, Logan Cox, Samantha M. Quinn, Thomas Ijon Tichy, Joseph Santini, Heather, and Sam T. Cat.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 10: Six Feet Under

Six Feet Under is number 10 in our Doux Top Twenty hitting shows.

(I borrowed some of this text from a piece I wrote awhile back, because it says what I want to say.)

I didn't discover Six Feet Under (2001-2005) until it was nearly over, and wrote retro reviews after the fact. Although when I was watching it for the first time, I knew immediately I'd have to review it, so I took notes about my reactions to every episode.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 11: The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries is number 11 in the Doux top twenty hitting shows.

When TVD began, I really didn’t like it. Thankfully, Josie Kafka hung in until it got good, and that encouraged me to give it a second try. I'm glad I did.

And here’s Josie to tell us about it.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 12: Smallville

Smallville is number 12 in the Doux Top Twenty hitting shows.

So here’s the thing. I reviewed Smallville solely because readers wanted me to do it, not because I wanted to do it. I liked the show and I probably would have watched the entire run, but I didn’t love it. And because I didn’t love Smallville, I got very tired of writing about it and some of my reviews are riddled with snark. I’m really sorry, I just couldn’t help it.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 13: Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is number 13 on Doux Reviews' list of top twenty hitting shows.

I watched Breaking Bad (2008-2013) from the beginning, raved about it to my friends, and kept telling myself I didn’t have time to review it. I was already reviewing a bunch of other shows and just couldn’t take on another.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 14: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents of SHIELD is number 14 in Doux Reviews’ top hitting television shows.

Since so many of us are Buffy fans, we had to review Agents of SHIELD (2013-2020) when it started. Mark Greig began our coverage, then shared reviewing duties with Sunbunny, and then Lamounier took it on and finished it. So I’ll let Lamounier take over from here.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 15: Person of Interest

Person of Interest is number 15 in Doux Reviews’ top twenty hitting shows.

PoI ran from 2011 to 2016 and we covered all five seasons, mostly as they aired. Nearly every episode was reviewed by Sunbunny, with the first few by Gus Brunetti (Hi, Gus! We miss you) and a few hither and yon by Mark Greig and Josie Kafka.

I’ll let Sunbunny take over from here.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 16: Arrow

Arrow is number 16 in Doux Reviews’ top twenty hitting shows.

Arrow ran from 2012 to 2020 and spawned a Berlanti-verse of spinoffs with lots of crossovers (that I still haven't finished updating). Doux Reviews was fortunate to have Samantha M. Quinn on board to review the first five seasons, and Shari willing to take over for the final three (with a little help from Mallena in the transition).

Doux Top Twenty! Number 17: Highlander

Highlander is number 17 in Doux Reviews’ top twenty hitting shows.

(I’m stealing my own text on the Highlander show page here, because it says exactly what I want to say.)

Doux Top Twenty! Number 18: Dexter

Dexter is number 18 in the Doux top twenty hitting shows.

I remember back in 2006, everyone was talking about a brand-new show called Dexter and telling me I had to try it, while I was certain it wasn't for me. A sympathetic serial killer? Come on. And then there was a Showtime free trial, and I succumbed and tried it. I was wrong and "everyone" was right.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 19: Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica is number 19 in Doux Reviews’ top twenty hitting shows.

After an exceptional 2003 miniseries that was a "re-imagining" of the original from 1978, the new Battlestar Galactica began airing in January 2005 and it was one of the earliest shows I reviewed.

Doux Top Twenty! Number 20: Fringe

As mentioned earlier, Doux Reviews will turn twenty years old this March. To observe this auspicious occasion, I’ll be posting our top hitting shows throughout January, starting with twenty and counting down to number one, posted January 31. (What will it be? Can you guess?)

Number 20, Fringe, was reviewed as it aired by Josie Kafka, who wrote the following:
