2023 has been a year. That's about all I can say about it. It is entertainment that makes it better.

Josie’s Best of 2023

I’ve kept a book list — specifically, a journal with one page per month listing the books I’ve read — for over two decades. A few years ago, I started adding the TV shows and movies that I watch to the journal. My motivation was these “Best Of” lists that we do each year.

As with last year, I read more than I watched. Some things were absolutely forgettable (Nine Perfect Strangers, anyone? What about The Menu?). Some were good (Bodies) but not great. Only a few deserve a spot on the coveted Josie’s Best Of 2023 list:

In 2023 I found myself returning to old favorites over new ones. I don’t think it was anything to do with the standard of recent titles, more an attempt to find comfort and familiarity in an increasingly scary and unfamiliar world.

Being unusually patriotic for me on Coronation Day

This is my twelfth annual Best Of piece for Doux Reviews. Twelfth!!! I started in 2012! I barely have time to write for the site any more, but I still come back every year and do these, because I love this site, and I love doing them.

Also we got to watch an actual Coronation this year, so that was fun. I'm fairly ambivalent about the Royal Family, but I do love a bit of pomp and ceremony. And I had a big birthday, but maybe we won't talk about that one...!
