What are you all watching this week?
Like many out there, I've been wrapped up in Succession. I don't usually watch shows with characters I cannot possibly ever like, but there's something fascinating about watching these horrible people drowning in money and power trying to find their way to the surface. Kieran Culkin's character Roman and his uncontrollable mouth is my favorite character, if only because I think he's the only one who tells the truth and actually loves his horrible father.

This Week: A Tremendous Relief
by
Josie Kafka
Josie Kafka: I'm masterminding this week's This Week post, and I want to get the ball rolling with a weird question: Do you enjoy all the TV you watch?
I tried to watch the first season of White Lotus when it premiered but couldn't get into it. This week, I tried to watch the second season, and I think I like it more, but I'm not sure I actually like it.

What are you watching this week?
I'm catching up with Ghosts (UK) after zipping through Ghosts (US). My daughter and I have been debating which is better. I've been thinking that they're different enough that maybe it's not an issue, and I'd particularly like to thank the producers for not giving the characters the same names.

Meet the new boss. Unfortunately, they really weren't the same as the old boss, which caused nothing but problems for these five classic shows.

Happy new year! It is a Doux Reviews tradition that I get to post my "best of" piece last. Did you know we've been doing these year-end posts since 2009? This is our eighth year at this. Eighth!

Laure's 2016 in Review

The term 'an oldie but a goodie' might be on many a vision board if the trends in the big and small screens are any indication.
Juliette's 2016 Year in Review
by
Juliette
This year, I am taking the bold step of making up my own categories for my Year In Review. This inevitably means they may be quite boring categories!
I keep detailed records of all the films I see at the cinema, but not of all the TV shows I watch, so there may be a tendency for more detail in the Film categories. I've also watched surprisingly little TV this year, comparatively speaking, but hey ho, quality over quantity!
Gilmore Girls: Fall

“I’m five by five.”
After Amy Sherman-Palladino’s unexpected departure from Gilmore Girls after the sixth season, she explained to the fandom that she had always known what the final four words of the series would be. And GG fans have been waiting ever since, until this moment, which comes right after the page break…

Gilmore Girls: Summer

"This adult stuff is hard, isn’t it?"
Summer is apparently the time when the problems of Gilmores really show their faces sans make-up or moisturizer and demand to be addressed. Too much sun really does make people crazy.

"Peaks and valleys, kid. The older you get, the more you have."
‘Spring’, the second installment of A Year in the Life, sees the girls experiencing crucial moments of acceptance. Whether these were in their professional or personal lives, it seems like both Lorelai and Rory are heading into uncharted territory.

“Haven’t done that for a while.”
“Felt good.”
After almost ten years off the air, Gilmore Girls has returned. Everyone is older, nobody’s much wiser, and Stars Hollow is thinking about switching to a sewer system. I’m so happy we’re back.

Welcome to Stars Hollow, a tiny Connecticut hamlet. It’s Cheers meets Wonderland, with more wackadoo and less beer. It’s also the home of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, your two new best friends, and the stars of this show.
Mom Lorelai and daughter Rory are the focus of this dramedy, but the supporting players—from grandparents to boyfriends to best friends and colleagues—help bring the wacky, fascinating world of the Gilmores into full relief.
In its original iteration, Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons, from 2000 to 2007. A limited-run reboot aired on Netflix in 2016.

New Gilmore Girls Trailer!
by
Josie Kafka
With the Gilmore Girls revival "A Year in the Life" just one month away, Netflix has released a trailer that finally gives us some details on where the girls are, what they've been chatting about, and why Stars Hollow should never lose its phone booth.
Gilmore Girls: Season Seven

“Mom, you’ve given me everything I need.”
Although Season Six is my least favorite, Season Seven is the most controversial: with Amy Sherman-Palladino ousted as showrunner, the final year of Gilmore Girls is not quite like the other ones. I think it has good points and bad, but mostly I’m happy that—thanks to the Netflix revival—it’s not the end of the show.

| Don't worry. It's not all for them. |
In Season Four’s “The Incredible Sinking Lorelais” both Rory and Lorelai are at their lowest point: Rory is sick, and got a D on a paper. Lorelai is worried about money and stressed about opening a new inn. Worst of all, mother and daughter are playing a terrible game of phone tag just when they need each other the most.
