After September 11, the U.S. government hired reclusive billionaire/genius Harold Finch (Lost's Michael Emerson) to build the Machine, a surveillance device capable of predicting violence. The Machine sees everything, but the government only cares about preventing major terrorist attacks. Haunted by the identities of the people he knows will be the victims of violent crimes, Finch recruits a mysterious ex-solider who goes by the name John Reese (Jim Caviezel). Together, they help prevent the preventable and save the lives of those the government considers irrelevant.
